The Ordinary Parent's Guide to Teaching Reading, by Jessie Wise, contains clear step-by-step instructions on how to teach reading from the very beginning stages, starting with letter sounds and moving systematically through blending sounds into reading real words and sentences. As I said in my last post, I started reading a new book called The Well-Trained Mind: A Guide to Classical Education at Home by Susan Wise Bauer and Jessie Wise, and it discusses well a classical education curriculum. Some are full time traditional week and some choose a university model two days a week for the younger ones where the parent helps guide work at home the other 3 days of the school week. I was introduced to the book The Well Trained Mind: A Guide to Classical Education at Home by Jessie Wise and Susan Wise Bauer when my oldest child was four years old (in 2001). Most people know Susan Wise Bauer as the co-author of The Well-Trained Mind: A Guide to Classical Education at Home.
